Nutritional medicine takes a holistic approach to health, and recognises how diet, lifestyle and emotional well-being can impact on health. The building blocks for our physical body are found in the food we eat, an incorrect balance of nutrients, vitamins and minerals impacts on our health in a negative way, leading to disease states.
By using ‘food as medicine‘ we can make dietary changes to not only prevent illness, but also enhance health and reduce the symptoms associated with varying disease states.
When it comes to health and nutrition, one size doesn’t fit all, we therefore take a personalised approach to nutrition, taking all factors into consideration, this provides better health outcomes with long-term results. Factors we consider include lifestyle, diet, digestion and absorption of nutrients, emotional well-being, and a predisposition due to genetics.
The aim of our approach is to ascertain the cause of poor health, and not just treat the symptoms. We can not only refer for and interpret general pathology, such as iron studies, blood glucose levels and liver enzymes, we also have access to functional pathology which can provide more insight into how the body is functioning.
During your initial consultation, a thorough case history is taken, we will discuss your family and personal medical history, and discover how your body is currently functioning.
Along with analysing diet and lifestyle, any current medication, supplements and recent pathology will also be reviewed. Physical exams that may be performed are blood pressure check, along with nail, skin, and tongue analysis.
Treatment plans are individualised, with personalised dietary and lifestyle recommendations, practitioner-only supplements may be prescribed and pathology tests may be requested.
